My journey as an artist has been a process of returning to my authentic self. My lifelong love of fabric is grounded in generations of women have been quilting, sewing and stitching beautiful fabric. My mother, Virginia Corrick, and a fellow artist, is a great inspiration to me, with her insatiable desire, in her 80′s, to continually explore new ways of creating beautiful garments.
There is a deep emotional and spiritual connection to a larger creative force as
I make cloth, and on some level, this connection is transmitted to those who respond to my fabric. This intuitive connection to fabric resulted in a textile design degree from the University of Minnesota, which included studies at The Arts and Crafts School (kunst og handverks skole) in Oslo, Norway.
My artist journey took a side trip to a 25-year career in interior design, where i channeled my love of textiles, color and pattern into designs for healthcare, corporate and hospitality interiors. In 1997, my journey brought me back to textiles. The work of textile artist Jane Dunnewold inspired me to create fabrics that speak to a deep connection with spirit.Using a variety of surface design techniques, imagery is layered in a complex interplay of color, texture and pattern which creates a feeling of “going within” and for me, connects me to my heart center.
Today, my artist path continues to be about expressing my authentic self through the creation of beautiful cloth. I love enriching lives by bringing beauty to environments with my fabrics, andI celebrate connecting with women’s spirits by inviting them to feel and look great in my garments.
